2008 AAA Diamond Award Winners
Colorful Colorado now boasts an extra jewel in its cache of fine dining establishments and accommodations. The Penrose Room at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs is the first Colorado restaurant to achieve the distinction of the AAA Five Diamond Award.
The Penrose Room is among only 60 restaurants nationwide to receive this exclusive five-diamond designation, out of 60,000 AAA-rated restaurants and hotels across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Each year, 60 full-time AAA/CAA Tourism Editors visit over 60,000 lodgings, campgrounds, restaurants and attractions throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Tourism Editors conduct unannounced inspections of lodgings and restaurants, scrutinizing such areas as cleanliness, safety, ambiance, amenities and service. AAA began field inspections of lodgings and restaurants in 1937. AAA adopted a formal rating system for TourBook guide accommodations that evolved into the current one to five level diamond rating system in 1977 in celebration of AAA's 75th anniversary. Evaluations and diamond ratings of restaurants began in 1986.
