Travel Alert: 2009-H1N1 Influenza (Swine flu) Outbreak Information Resources

Denver, April 29, 2009 - AAA Colorado is aiding travelers by closely monitoring reports from government agencies regarding the swine flu outbreak. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), swine influenza should not discourage people from traveling to or within the United States. The World Health Organization is not recommending travel restrictions and border closures to fight swine flu, calling such steps ineffective.

At this point, it is still too early to know the severity of the problem or the risk it may pose. Travelers like all other Americans should heed the health advisories and precautions being issued by the Centers for Disease Control and others to help prevent the spread of the virus.

"AAA Colorado recommends that travelers to Mexico, where swine flu has been reported, should speak with their travel professional for updates regarding the area they plan to visit," says Sandra Barnes, Director of Travel Services. "Travelers can then make informed decisions about any travel plans they have."
